Noose Found In Garage of Only Black NASCAR Driver Bubba Wallace

NASCAR announced Sunday night that a noose was found in a garage stall belonging to Bubba Wallace, the league’s only Black driver. The incident happened at Talladega Superspeedway in Lincoln, Alabama. The noose was first discovered by a member of the team, who “immediately” reported to NASCAR. NASCAR says they will work with local law enforcement to investigate the incident.

Bubba Wallace was largely instrumental in NASCAR’s decision to ban Confederate flags (even though some were still flown yesterday) and voice support for the BLM movement. Just two weeks ago, NASCAR drivers released a video in solidarity with the movement.

Alabama governor Kay Ivey issued a public apology to Bubba for what he experienced in the state.

“I am shocked and appalled to hear of yesterday’s vile act against Bubba Wallace in Talladega - there is no place for this disgusting display of hatred in our state. Racism and threats of this nature will not be condoned nor tolerated, and I commit to assisting in any way possible to ensure that the person responsible for this is caught and punished,” Gov. Ivey said.

Bubba Wallace used his social media to respond to the incident, calling it “despicable act of racism” that left him incredibly saddened,

Stars like Lebron James have also taken to Twitter to speak on the racist incident.

NASCAR drivers have also taken to social media to support their teammate:
