One person was killed, and one person was wounded, following a shooting at a high school in Knoxville, Tennessee. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities. The shooting took place after police tried to confront someone who entered Austin-East Magnet High School armed with a firearm.

Knoxville Police Department (KPD) said that multiple agencies are at the scene of the shooting, which took place late Monday afternoon. According to KPD, there are “multiple” gunshot victims. A police officer is among the injured from the shooting. The officer is described as “conscious” and “in good spirits”.

There is now “no active threat”, but the investigation of the situation is ongoing. “We are gathering information about this tragic situation and will provide additional information as soon as possible," Bob Thomas, Knox County Schools superintendent, said in a tweet. "The school building has been secured and students who were not involved in the incident have been released to their families."

In a statement, Tennessee governor Bill Lee told the public "pray for that situation and the families and the victims that might be effected by that in our state."

We will update this story as more details emerge.
