In 2012, singer Rihanna launched the Clara Lionel Foundation. The foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to help impoverished communities with access to healthcare and education. Last year, Rihanna was awarded a humanitarian award by Harvard for her work to help girls have access to a quality education. This past January, Rihanna visited schools in Malawi as an ambassador to learn about the school set-up and needs.

Rihanna's latest endeavor with her foundation is partnering with the 1KM Foundation to give bikes to Malawi school girls awarded scholarships. The bikes will benefit hundreds of girls. In Malawi, and many other impoverished communities, many kids aren't able to get an education simply because they lack access to transportation. Out of the 4.6 million students in Malawi, only 8% of them attend secondary school. The bikes program is slated to go on for five years.

Rihanna put out a statement about the bike program:

Last June, Rihanna tweeted a few world leaders to ask them to pledge to fund education for kids who don't have access to it.
