Facebook Takes Down Trump Ads for Violating "Organized Hate" Policy

By: Executive Tea Staff

Facebook announced Thursday that they took down ads by the Trump campaign that were in violation of the site’s “organized hate” policy. The ads included a graphic of a red-shape and text to ask supporters to fight against Antifa. Antifa, an umbrella term for “anti-facist”, has largely been used by Trump to describe all peaceful protestors that the country has seen take to the streets in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd.

The Facebook ads were used on personal pages for Trump and Vice-President Pence, as well as the “Team Trump” page.

The Anti-Defamation League responded to the use of symbol, stating, “The Nazis used red triangles to identify their political victims in concentration camps. Using it to attack political opponents is highly offensive.”

Facebook also explained their move to take down the ad: “Our policy prohibits using a banned hate group’s symbol to identify political prisoners without the context that condemns or discusses the symbol.”

This is one of the first times Facebook has publicly rebuked and took action against a Trump post. Just three weeks ago, Twitter also flagged Trump tweets as “glorifying violence” and promoting disinformation.
