Ex-Brooklyn Center Police officer Kim Potter, who fatally shot 20-year-old Daunte Wright, was arrested Wednesday afternoon at 12:07 pm and is currently being held in jail without bail. Earlier Wednesday, it was announced that Potter was being charged with 2nd-degree manslaughter.

In the state of Minnesota, second-degree manslaughter applies when authorities allege a person causes someone's death by "culpable negligence whereby the person creates an unreasonable risk, and consciously takes chances of causing death or great bodily harm to another." The sentence is subject to a maximum of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.

According to KSTP, Washington County Attorney Pete Orput met with Wright’s family and their attorneys on Tuesday night to inform them of the decision to charge Potter. Ben Krump, one of the Wright family’s attorneys, released a statement saying, “while we appreciate that the district attorney is pursuing justice for Daunte, no conviction can give the Wright family their loved one back."

Kim Potter was booked in Hennepin County Jail at approximately 12:07 pm on Wednesday, according to Hennepin County Jail records that we obtained.

However, by 5:38 pm, the records showed that Potter was released after posting $100,000 bond.
