President Biden, Vice-President Harris Issue Statements on Daunte Wright

By: Executive Tea Staff

President Biden and Vice President Harris have both weighed in on the tragic police shooting of yet another unarmed Black man, Daunte Wright.

President Biden first spoke on the incident to reporters at the White House,

It’s really a tragic thing that happened, but I think we’ve got to wait and see what the investigation shows — the entire investigation. You’ve all watched, I assume — as I did, the film, which is really the body cam, which is fairly graphic. Question is — was it an accident? Was it intentional? That remains to be determined by a full-blown investigation.

On the official POTUS Twitter page, President Biden elaborated on the tragedy, mentioning “the pain, anger, and trauma that Black America experiences every day,” and saying we must “rebuild trust and ensure accountability so no one is above the law.”

Biden has been in communication with local Minnesota authorities, including Brooklyn Center Mayor Tim Elliot and Governor Tim Waltz about the incident. "There will not be a lack of help and support from the federal government if the local authorities believe it's needed," he told reporters.

Vice President Harris, whose communications team is led by 2 Black women - Ashley Etienne and Symone Sanders - struck a more urgent tone, demanding answers for the family of Daunte Wright.

The Biden administration has stated their goal is to sign the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act into law. The bill would set national standards for police behavior, ban chokeholds and no-knock warrants, restrict the transfer of military weaponry to police forces, and require use of bodycams for federal assistance.
